What are Technical Controls?
Technical Controls are security measures implemented through technology to protect systems, networks, and data. These controls include tools and mechanisms such as Firewalls, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and encryption.
They operate by enforcing policies, detecting threats, and preventing unauthorized access. Technical controls are a critical component of Defense in Depth and are often integrated with Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
What are Technical Controls used for?
Technical controls are used to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats in real time. They help mitigate risks associated with Exploits, Malware, and unauthorized access attempts such as Brute Force Attack.
Organizations rely on technical controls to enforce Access Control, monitor Indicators of Attack (IOA) and Indicators of Compromise (IOC), and support continuous security operations through SOC and XDR platforms.
